WIP: a photo essay

Tablecloth: a detail.

It started as a tablecloth purchased for $3 from the trash & treasure market held at the Coburg drive in. I won the $3 as part of a bet on crowd numbers at the first Melbourne FC game of the year - I guessed closest. It was possibly the highlight of the day (thanks Melbourne FC! Onya keep up the good work... in fact... maybe don't. Maybe try something different. Some oomf maybe? Some training from a country women's netball team?)

The scribble.

A scribble and a few choice cuts later it is becoming a new thing... a quilt! Tansi approves. She thinks the tablecloth brings out the ginger in her tabby hide and will go very nicely under her comfy spot on the bed. Even when it is folded up and placed out the way it is still a worthy cat landing pad apparently.
Tansi and tablecloth in situ.

Piecing together some bits.

I really love the mix of textures between the linen, the grey cord, grass green homespun and pinky stone coloured fabric of unknown origins. I hope it's raw silk. It has a beautiful drape. There is also some jade coloured polyester - not my normal speed of fabric but it is a vintage piece purchased out of a scraps bin at a vintage fabric shop in High St Northcote.

It's gonna work!

Stitching stitching...

Coming in our next installment of WIP - a fully finished quilt top... Hopefully.

3 films.

I saw three films this weekend. Beginners was about how just because something is perfect it doesn't mean you can't fuck it up. Then I saw Shame which they said was about sex addiction but was really about pathological loneliness which doesn't sound nearly as exciting. And Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close left me wearing heavy boots.

Driving Home: Pentland Hills
Two weekends ago I spent the weekend with Danny and Gael in their gorgeous old house in Daylesford. Gael and I spent the Sunday dawdling along the back roads to Castlemaine where we went to Buda and had yum cha for lunch. I also got to daydream about working in a country library. The drive home was beautiful. It took me nearly two hours because every time I looked back the sky was doing something amazing.

Do check out some of the sky pics on flickr - you can make them as big as they should be to get the full effect.

On my desk.

Is some lovely soft grey conifer I 'found' on the ground at Buda in Casltemaine on Sunday. It was a gorgeous place. A beautiful big strong building sitting on a rise over looking the town. The garden was gorgeous too.

Henri.

I got Tansi a kitten. He came from Meadow Heights where he lived with his little ma and his little ginger sister and at least 3 dogs. He is very friendly. And Tansi thinks he might be the work of the devil. It is going to be a very interesting Easter. He is around 7 weeks old I think so 7 weeks ago was around the second week of February. I wasn't sure what to call him but Henri seems to suit him best.

Yelling at me in the car.
Escaped out the cat box and into the wilds of the car.

A bit of shoe polish...

It looks ok. I probably should have used dark brown instead of black. But I think it will be ok as it fades.
